JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police said a 26-year-old man shot early Saturday morning at a home on Orton Street in Jacksonville's Hillcrest neighborhood has died.

Officers responding to a 911 call at about 5:45 a.m. found the Mitch McCoy Jr. with at least one gunshot wound in front of the home south of Lenox Avenue. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville but died, according to police.

McCloy's family told News4Jax they believe the shooting started after an argument over a dog.

Homicide detectives said other people were in the home at the time. Detectives said they believe, but they don't yet know, what led to the shooting and they don't know who shot the man.

“(If) you shoot a kid in the driveway with a gun, you’re a coward,” McCoy's father said. “You ain’t got the b**s to fight him. Come see his daddy. Come see the McCoy family. That’s what you need to do.”

Neighbors told News4Jax they woke up to police and flashing lights on the street and were concerned there could be a gunman in the neighborhood.

"We don't have a direct threat to anyone else ... but people should always be wary of their surroundings," Sgt. Mark Musser said.

McCoy leaves behind a child and his wife who is pregnant with their second child.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.

McCoy's death began a bloody 19 hours in Jacksonville. Three other men were shot and killed in separate incidents before 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
