1 killed, woman hurt in shooting at food mart, police say

JSO: Victim attempted to flee in vehicle, but crashed 2 blocks away

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person was killed and another person injured in a Sunday afternoon shooting at a food store, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said it happened about 2:35 p.m. at the Highland Food Mart on Monaco Drive near Dunn Avenue as several people hanging out both in front of and inside the store.

Homicide investigators said one of the victims who was shot tried to drive away in his personal vehicle, but it crashed two blocks away. That person was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where police said he died.

The second person shot was in the store and received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her hand, police said.

Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.​
