Police ID 1 killed in Woodland Acres shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – A man shot and killed early Saturday in the Woodland Acres area of Jacksonville has been identified, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers dispatched to the Oakwood Villa Apartments on Kona Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. found Jason Williams, 29, shot at least once. He was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Homicide detectives said three male suspects had entered the apartment, then some sort of altercation took place and Williams was shot.

The three men then fled the scene and police say their identities are unknown.

Neighbors who didn't want to be identified tell News4Jax Williams is a father of three, including a newborn.

"It’s very sad, especially him. He’s just really a nice guy. He has a son that I know is gonna miss his dad; you know, he is young and he really needs his dad right now," said an unidentified neighbor.

Police said they had interviewed two other people who were in the apartment at the time and were not hurt, but they were still not sure exactly what led to the shooting.
