Police identify Jacksonville man killed on Westside

Man found shot Saturday outside car on Lakeland Street dies at hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a 31-year-old man was found shot at least one time outside of his car parked in front of a home on Lakeland Street on the Westside early Saturday Morning.  He died after being rushed to the hospital.

Lakeland Street is located in the Rolling Hills area of the Westside near Interstate 10 and Ramona Blvd.

Homicide Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said police were called around 6:05 a.m. and found the man wounded by the car.

"We have  no leads on suspect information and are trying to identify the victim," Rudlaff said.

Police have identified the man as Richard Likens, who lived on Picketville Road, about 5 miles away.

Investigators questioned two men who were inside the house where the victim's car was parked.

A sergeant said they were sleeping when the shooting happened and didn't know anything about it.

Homicide detectives are looking for clues to who may have shot the man and why.

Some people who work in the area said they have seen a change in the atmosphere.

"It's sad what happened it really is, but unfortunately knowing and seeing all the activity, we knew it would just be a matter of time before it happened," said hairdresser, Angie May.

May said she's noticed an influx of suspicious activity on Lakeland Street over the past few months.

JSO is asking for anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 904-630-0500.
