CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – A woman's body was found Friday morning in a marsh along Interstate 95 in Camden County after a man told Florida authorities he'd killed his girlfriend and dumped her body in Georgia, deputies said.

According to the Camden County Sheriff's Office, the man walked into the Florida Agriculture Inspection Station in North Florida on Thursday night and told state officers that he would be wanted for killing his girlfriend.

He said her body would be found in the river near Exit 7 on I-95 in Camden County, Georgia, investigators said.

Authorities began searching the area Thursday night and, at daybreak Friday, personnel from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Camden County Emergency Management Agency and the Florida Agriculture Inspection Station joined the search of the marshes and waterways along Crooked River.

A GDNR helicopter crew eventually spotted the body on the edge of the marsh, west of the I-95 Crooked River Bridge. Camden County deputies, Emergency Management personnel and GDNR officers recovered the body around 10:30 a.m.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, the body was identified as Mitzi Marie Babb, who had been considered missing and endangered.

Hernando County deputies said Babb, 43, had last been seen at 5 p.m. Tuesday at her place of employment in Brooksville, which is about an hour north of Tampa.

On Thursday morning, Hernando County deputies named Babb's boyfriend, Jeffrey Michael Morrison, as a person of interest in her disappearance.

Later that evening, according to the Hernando County deputies, Morrison, 42, was taken into custody at the White Plains Agricultural Weigh Station in White Springs.

Morrison, of Helen, Georgia, was booked into the Hamilton County jail on arrest warrants out of Georgia, authorities said.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, the arrest warrants stem from an armed residential burglary and attempted arson that occurred Wednesday in Peach County, which is located in central Georgia.

Since her body was discovered Friday, Hernando County detectives said that they have been in contact with Babb’s family members, as well as her co-workers at the Florida Forest Service.

Hernando County detectives are assisting Camden County detectives with the joint investigation.
