Near-record highs expected as drought continues through weekend

Driest period since 1872 leaves lawns and gardens parched

. (.)

Patchy to dense fog late tonight and early Wednesday morning. The pattern will continue through Friday morning.

Mostly sunny skies with above-average temperatures through Thursday, then near-record highs under partly cloudy skies Friday through Sunday.

The dry streak will continue, as long-range models (8-14 days) show little relief. This marks the driest period on record since 1872, from August 25 to today. During that time, a little over a foot of rain was recorded.

High pressure will dominate the forecast for the next several days, with a southerly flow. The fire risk will remain elevated due to dry conditions and warm temperatures. Patchy to dense fog each morning will dampen the ground cover, providing a trace of water to thirsty lawns and gardens.

Temperatures will climb to near-record highs Friday through Sunday. High pressure will weaken on Sunday and into early next week as a front approaches and moves through the region on Monday. Current models bring the front through as a dry front, with cooler temperatures returning.
