FHP: Woman killed in head-on crash on A1A near Nassau Sound Bridge

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – A woman died Tuesday morning in a head-on crash just north of the Nassau Sound Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the 47-year-old Fernandina Beach woman, whose name was not immediately released, was traveling south on State Road A1A in a Mazda 6 about 7:05 a.m. when a Dodge Journey traveling north crossed into her path.

The crash blocked all lanes of A1A just north of the bridge, but lanes reopened at 11 a.m.

Markings could be seen on the side of the road, and glass and other debris were scattered in the grass at the scene of the crash, across the street  from the entrance to Amelia Island State Park.

Troopers said the driver in the Dodge Journey, 36-year-old Nathan Doss, was taken to UF Health with serious injuries.

Charges are pending, according to the Highway Patrol.

This was the first of two deadly wrecks Tuesday morning on A1A.
