JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was arrested Friday in the shooting death of his father on the city's Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Trenton Lauwereins, 24, is charged with murder in the deadly shooting that police said happened about 1 p.m. Friday at a townhouse complex on Crownwood Drive, near Gate Parkway.
Police said Lauwereins shot and killed his father, 44-year-old Joseph Lauwereins, who was standing behind a locked bedroom door at their home during an altercation.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Lauwereins did not call police immediately after it happened. Police said he later admitted to the shooting when interviewed.
"Always want to say a prayer for the family because they’re the ones hurting," said LaMont Huffman, who lives in the neighborhood.
Lauwereins was booked into the Duval County jail about 9:20 p.m. Friday. He was ordered held without bond at a first appearance hearing Saturday afternoon. His next court date was set for March 18.
The domestic-related shooting was one of three shootings within a three-hour span Friday in Jacksonville.
