JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – State money that would have gone to help the USS Orleck naval museum prepare for its permanent home has sunk.
On Thursday, News4JAX reported on how the Orleck planned on using the money for the repairs to the pier where it will be permanently docked. Earlier this year, the Florida Legislature approved a $250,000 grant for the work. Now, Gov. Ron DeSantis has blocked that measure.
News4JAX checked with the Orleck museum board and was told that it’s not concerned. The museum has funding coming in from other private sources that will cover the cost.
The Orleck is expected to move to its permanent location in three to six months. There’s no word whether the action by the governor will delay that.
