Plans for Jax Beach Adventure Landing site move forward

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville Beach is moving forward on a project to replace the Adventure Landing amusement water park on Beach Boulevard.

According to our partners at the Jax Daily Record — the deal is expected to close at the end of the year, but there is no definite date set.

The Westside location closed down permanently last summer after 24 years in business. The beach location was expected to also close around that time, but the park was able to negotiate an extension.

The Jacksonville Beach City council is now looking to add an apartment complex with multiple affordable housing units that would replace the amusement park.

Jacksonville Beach City Council voted 6 to 1 to advance a developer’s rezoning request to add an affordable housing apartment complex to the property.

Trevato Development Group is the developer behind the project and plans to build a 427-unit apartment community with about 5,000 square feet of retail and office space.

The development group made an agreement with city leaders to make 7% of the apartments which is about 30 units available for affordable housing. Trevato’s first offer was originally only 5% of the units but was declined.

Adventure Landing makes up 22.2 acres of the site with the Trevato project comprising 53.8 acres, but only 10.9 acres will be developed.

That’s a 40% reduction in the total land development as permitted by the city of Jacksonville Beach Comprehensive Plan. The remainder would be conservation land.

The council still has to have a final vote on the project which is expected to happen on November 7th. If approved, the project would take roughly three years to complete.
