FILE -- Florida lawmakers consider school voucher expansion
DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – It’s been a year since private school vouchers became available to Florida families regardless of income.
In March 2023, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law House Bill (HB) 1, which expanded available school choice options for all students in Florida. The bill eliminated financial eligibility restrictions and the current enrollment cap for the Family Empowerment Scholarship Educational options.

Recent data shows that in Duval County, an additional 5,724 students took advantage of it.
