Flagler County man, 81, dies after car strikes him while crossing the road: FHP

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Palm Coast man, 81, died Saturday morning after he was hit by a vehicle while walking across the street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the crash took place around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Royal Palms Parkway and US-1.

According to the agency’s crash report, a 20-year-old man from Daytona Beach was traveling north on US-1 in a sedan and began to approach Royal Palms Parkway. As he approached the intersection, the 81-year-old man began to walk east across the highway.

The vehicle proceeded to enter the intersection and struck the pedestrian, who suffered fatal injuries, FHP said.

FHP adds that the area where the crash occurred had a marked pedestrian crosswalk.
