Common questions about fostering kittens:

How long will I foster the kittens?

It depends! Kittens usually return to the shelter when they reach about 2 pounds, around 8 to 9 weeks old. If you foster a 6-week-old kitten, that’s about two weeks of care. Even one week of fostering can be lifesaving.

How much does it cost?

JHS provides food, supplies, and veterinary care, so fostering is free for you.

What if I want to adopt the kittens?

Many fosters fall in love and adopt. You get one free adoption per year and first pick of the litter. Adoption specials are frequent, so “foster fails” are really “foster wins.”

What if I get too attached to give them back?

That’s normal! JHS offers a supportive Facebook group where fosters can share stories and get encouragement. You won’t be alone.

Can’t foster but want to help?

You can still make a difference by sharing posts, donating from the wish list, or giving money to support veterinary care. Visit jaxhumane.org for more ways to help.
