CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The mother of a Navy sailor charged in the deadly shooting of his two roommates said some details reported about the case are inaccurate.
Taylor Lomax, 22, was arrested Wednesday night after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he shot and killed two women outside the home they shared. Lomax is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and is being held without bond.
Deputies identified the victims as 21-year-old Noely Makenda and 20-year-old Jordyn Forrestier. All three were members of the U.S. Navy and lived at the home on Hanging Moss Road in Orange Park
According to the sheriff’s office, Lomax’s wife was visiting the home when an argument with the two women turned into a physical fight in the front yard. Investigators say Lomax then grabbed a gun and fired shot about 30 times. Lomax’s wife called 911, deputies said. When authorities came to the home, the two women were found dead in the front yard.
Lomax’s mother, Tomika, spoke to News4JAX over the phone Friday. She didn’t want to give an on-camera interview because her son does not yet have an attorney. However, she said some information being reported is misleading, including claims that Lomax’s wife was merely visiting the home. She said Lomax’s wife lived there and had been returning from Birmingham, Alabama.
News4JAX also spoke briefly by phone with Lomax’s wife, who said she believes reports about the incident are misleading but declined to comment further at this time.
Lomax is still in jail and is being held without bond.
