CHARLTON COUNTY, Ga. – A brush fire burning near Newell Road and Eston Prescott Road in Charlton County remains approximately 102 acres and is 85% contained as of Sunday, according to the Charlton County Emergency Management Agency.
Georgia Forestry Commission crews and Charlton County Fire Rescue personnel remain on scene conducting mop-up operations and monitoring for hotspots within the fire area.

There are no road closures and no evacuation orders currently in effect.
Residents in the area are encouraged to stay aware of conditions, monitor official sources for updates, and keep important items ready in the event an evacuation becomes necessary.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation, and no official determination has been made.
EMA officials also reminded residents that outdoor burning should always follow applicable laws, regulations, and safety guidelines.
“Never leave a fire unattended, and always keep a water source, such as a charged garden hose, readily available nearby,” officials said. “Even under favorable conditions, fires can spread unexpectedly.”
