JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A violent Fourth of July weekend left two people dead and two others wounded in four separate shootings across Jacksonville, police said.
The incidents unfolded in different parts of the city but appeared to be unrelated, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said, and detectives are still trying to determine what led to the gunfire.

Early Saturday morning on West 18th Street, officers found a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound to the face. A driver discovered the man and called 911; he was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.
Hours later on Barnes Road South, JSO said four masked men armed with rifles and handguns opened fire outside an apartment complex. A man in his late 40s was struck in the arm and leg and is expected to survive, authorities said.
A Fourth of July gathering on New Berlin Road escalated into a fight that ended with one man shot and killed, investigators said. Multiple people were detained at the scene while detectives interviewed witnesses to piece together what happened.
Just before 4 a.m. Sunday on Calvert Street, an argument between a man and a woman ended when she allegedly shot and killed the man, JSO said. She was arrested a short distance from the scene.
