Downtown Vision CEO says he’s stepping down after more than 11 years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Downtown Vision, Inc. announced Tuesday that Jake Gordon is stepping down from his role as CEO later this year.

DVI says Gordon will transition out of his role on Sept. 30, the end of the organization’s fiscal year. He will stay with the organization to help with the transition to another CEO.

DVI’s Chief Operation Officer and General Counsel Eric Miller will take on the role of Interim CEO. The organization’s Board of Directors approved the transition plan by way of the Executive Committee on July 2.

Gordon released a statement regarding his departure from DVI:

It has been a privilege to lead this organization through such a dynamic period of growth for Downtown Jacksonville. I am proud of all of our accomplishments. Now is the right time to allow for new leadership. I look forward to supporting DVI’s continued success helping Downtown. Jacksonville is home for my family, and I care deeply about this city and its continued momentum in Downtown. My wife and I look forward to exploring new ways to contribute to the community and continuing to support the people, organizations and ideas helping to shape its future.

Gordon became CEO of DVI in 2015. During his tenure, the organization’s annual budget grew from $1.1 million in 2015 to nearly $5 million in 2026. He also fronted the organization’s move to its new $3 million headquarters in 2024.

Some of the initiatives he’s helped grow or start during his tenure include the DTJax Gala, the DTJax Awards, the Sip & Stroll event series, the Jax River Jams concert series and PlacemakingJax’s placemaking initiatives.

Jake’s vision and dedication over the past 11 years have been instrumental to Downtown Vision’s current level of success. He has elevated DVI to one of the premier impactful nonprofits supporting our community. Because of his leadership, the organization is exceptionally well-positioned for the future. We respect Jake’s decision to seek new leadership for DVI’s next chapter, and we enter this transition with immense gratitude for his contributions and full confidence in our continued momentum.

DVI’s Board of Directors are set to announce more about the process of choosing a new CEO soon, with no timetable announced yet.
