JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was arrested early July 19 after an off‑duty officer told investigators a driver pointed a firearm and shone a blue laser into his vehicle during a road‑rage incident, according to an arrest report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives using license‑plate readers identified a gray 2018 Honda Civic with a North Carolina tag and stopped the car inside a downtown parking garage, where officers conducted a felony takedown and arrested the driver and a passenger, the report said.

The driver was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and with misuse of a laser lighting device on a motor vehicle, both listed as third‑degree felonies in the report. The arrest report lists the case as cleared by arrest.
The off‑duty deputy told investigators the other vehicle repeatedly honked, drove extremely close behind his car and a blue laser was directed into his vehicle. He said he then saw what appeared to be the barrel of a firearm pointed at him as the suspect vehicle pulled alongside, the report said.
Officers found a Glock pistol in the driver’s door pocket and an AR‑15–style BB rifle on the floor behind the driver’s seat, the report said. The Glock had a magazine with live 9mm rounds inserted but no round in the chamber. Investigators also recovered a blue laser device and a charger from the center console; testing showed the device emitted a blue beam and could be mounted on a firearm.
The driver told investigators he had been in the car all day working for a delivery service and acknowledged using the laser, saying he waved it “out the sunroof and at his dashboard,” the report said. He denied pointing a gun at anyone. The passenger declined to speak with police, the report said.
The driver was taken to the Pretrial Detention Facility. Court records attached to the arrest report show a probable‑cause filing was made; a docket entry is scheduled for Aug. 11.
