JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city of Jacksonville will posthumously honor hip-hop legend Billy ‘Bigga Rankin’ Plummer with a key to the city, recognizing his decades of influence on music, culture and community.
Family, friends and members of the music industry gathered Saturday to celebrate the life of the Jacksonville music executive and mentor during a homegoing service that drew about a thousand attendees from across Florida and beyond.

One week after he was laid to rest, Plummer will receive the key to the city on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m. at A. Randolph Park during the K.I.N.G. Foundation’s Back to School Community Day.
Mayor Donna Deegan proclaimed Aug. 2, Rankin’s birthday, as Bigga Rankin Day, recognizing his contributions to the music industry and the lasting impact he made on Jacksonville and beyond.
Bigga Rankin’s influence stretched well beyond the music industry, touching the lives of fans, artists and community members alike. His legacy is expected to inspire generations to come.
