JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man’s family is grieving after police say he was stabbed and killed by his own brother last weekend.
Ryan Daniels, 30, was found stabbed and bleeding on the front porch of a home on Davis Road in Oceanway on Saturday. Despite efforts to save his life, Daniels died at a local hospital.
The next day, his brother — 38-year-old Eric Mincey — was arrested and charged with murder.
Family Left With Questions
Daniels’s family and friends tell News4Jax they don’t believe anything dramatic led to a fight, but say they simply don’t know what happened — but they are heartbroken.
His cousin, Kenyonna Hill, struggled to make sense of the loss.
“Nothing should ever went that far for us to be sitting here having an interview about Ryan and his brother being the killer,” Hill said. “That should have never happened.”
Hill also reflected on the bond the two brothers once shared.
“That is his mother’s son. They bathed together. They fought together. They ate together. It doesn’t matter if they had prior altercations. It should never got this far. It should never went as far as it did.”
‘Loved by a Lot of People’
Those who knew Daniels described him as a quiet man with a warm presence. His sister, Tori Hill, remembered his smile.
“He was like a man of few words,” Hill said. “He only said a few things but every time he did his smile was like ‘ding.’”
Hill also wants people to know just how much her brother meant to those around him.
“If he didn’t think or if he didn’t know, like he’s really loved by a lot of people, a lot of people, and they all had wonderful things to say about him.”
Daniels leaves behind a daughter, who his family says was his pride and joy. His family is currently working on bringing his body back to New Jersey, where his relatives are based, for burial.
The family has started a GoFundMe page to cover the cost of transporting Daniels’s body back to New Jersey. As of Thursday night, the page had raised just over $13,000.
