Police investigate shooting death on Ida Street in Moncrief

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police investigated a shooting death Friday night in the Moncrief neighborhood, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Officers responded just before 10 p.m. to Ida Street just off Lem Turner Road. They 33-year-old Roderick Melvin Smith lying in the front yard with a gunshot wound, according to JSO. Officers tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police say they are talking to people who were inside the home at the time of the shooting. 

At this time police say there is no information on the shooter.
