JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edward Waters University has removed the interim tag from head football coach Brian Jenkins’ title after leading the Tigers to the best start in a generation.

EWU announced the move on Friday morning, six days after Jenkins led the Tigers to a 41-38 win over nationally ranked Virginia Union. The win pushed EWU to a 3-0 start. A trip to Bethune-Cookman next week is next.

“I am humbled and honored to be officially named head coach of this program,” Jenkins said in a release. “This is about more than football — it’s about our young men, our university, and our community. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but we know the job is just beginning. Our best football is still ahead of us.”

Jenkins was elevated to interim head coach after Toriano Morgan resigned after four years with the Tigers last July. Jenkins was the associate head coach and offensive coordinator alongside Morgan since he was hired in 2021.

Jenkins has an excellent resume as a head coach, going 46-14 at Bethune Cookman from 2010-14. He won four MEAC championships and went to the FCS playoffs three times. Jenkins also went 10-17 at Alabama State.

The last time Edward Waters opened this strong was in 1964. The Tigers went 9-0 and won the Southeastern Athletic Conference.
