Erica Lopez is a meteorologist at News4Jax, who is passionate about forecasting the weather in both English and Spanish. Erica is a native Texan, growing up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the heart of severe weather, which sparked her passion for meteorology at a young age.
Erica's meteorological journey began in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she pursued a degree in meteorology at the University of Oklahoma. During her time at OU, she worked for the local Telemundo station as a weekend weather anchor.
After graduating from OU, Erica moved to the Monterey Bay area in California as a bilingual weekday morning meteorologist at KION-TV. She then joined the Weather Channel as a bilingual weather producer, learning all about the tropics and covering the busy tropical seasons of 2020 and 2021. Erica later became a bilingual meteorologist at MyRadar, a national digital app.
Beyond the world of weather, Erica remains deeply connected to her Texan roots, relishing in the state's beloved traditions like barbecue, breakfast tacos, and making pit stops at Buc-ee's.

Warm Sunday before the Storms Arrive

Good morning and happy Super Bowl Sunday y’all 😊A mild start with temperatures in the upper 50s to 60s region wide with a slight breeze.Later today we will warm up into the upper 70s to 80s region wide under partly cloudy skies. Theres a slight chance of showers mostly in our southern counties this afternoon.Monday: Severe weather is possible Monday afternoon as widespread showers and thunderstorms move into the area after lunch time with highs in the upper 70s to 80s.Main threats will be damaging winds and hail region wide and isolated tornadoes mostly in SE GA. Rest of the week: Once the line of storms pushed through temperatures will drop back into the mid 60s, normal for this time of year with overnight lows in the 40s and 50s under mostly sunny skies. The next chance of rain is possible Saturday.

Beautiful Weekend

This morning isolated patchy dense fog with low visibilities is ongoing across SE GA along I-95 and along I-10. Temperatures region wide are in the low to mid 50s under partly cloudy skies.The rest of today will be pleasant with afternoon highs in the upper 70s, with winds from the south between 5-10 MPH and gusts as high as 16 MPH.Sunday: Overnight lows will be dipping down into the upper 50s with breezy conditions continuing throughout the day with gusts as high as 20 MPH from the south. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to 80s region wide. Showers increase heading into Sunday afternoon and into Monday morning.Monday: Severe storm chances are possible where gusty winds and an isolated tornado threat is possible in the afternoon.Rest of the week: Dry conditions return with temperatures right around normal for this time of year in the mid to upper 60s under sunny skies.

Cooler Weather is on the Way

This morning the cold front iknocking on our door step and temperatures this morning are in the mid to upper 60s with winds from the west 10-15 MPH. Very isolated showers are possible this early morning but radar is looking clear so farAfternoon temperatures will be back to around normal for this time of year- mid to upper 60s with partly cloudy skies.MONDAY: Overnight lows will drop back down to the 40s region wide. Mostly sunny skies for Monday with breezy northwest winds between 10-15 mph gusts as high as 25 mph. Rest of the week: No rain chances for the next week or so with high pressure over our area with temperatures in the 60s all week long and overnight lows in the 40s! Enjoy 😊

Dense fog early, then rain chances tonight

Dense Fog advisory issued through 10 AM Saturday.Visibilities this morning are down to a mile or less due to the dense fog region wide. The fog lingers through the late morning and into the early afternoon for coastal areas.The rest of today marks the warmest day of the week so far where temperatures across our area will reach the low to mid 80s, making us the warmest spot in the lower 48!Partly sunny skies with winds from the south between 10-15 MPH with gusts up to 25 MPH.Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms will arrive as early as 9 PM tonight then a secondary wave early Sunday morning.Sunday: Lows in the upper 50s to low 60s region wide with early morning showers.Shower activity diminishes by lunch time then a cool down with highs in the upper 60s, with a shift in winds from the NW between 15-20 MPH with gusts as high as 25 MPH.Rest of the week: Florida like weather returns this upcoming week with mostly sunny skies and temperatures near normal - Low to mid 60s, with overnight lows in the 40s.

Intense Sunday Chill

SUNDAY: Temperatures will struggle to even hit the upper 40s in NE FL and SE GA with the exception of our coastal areas. Winds will be blustery from the North 10-15 MPH with gusts as high as 20 MPH. with partly cloudy skies.Monday: Another cold night where temperatures will dip below freezing in SE GA and 30s and 40s elsewhere. A pattern shift arrives as winds turn onshore ( northeasterly) bringing in more humidity to the area. A slight shower is possible Monday with high temperatures back to normal values in the mid to upper 60s under mostly cloudy skies. Rest of the week: Scattered rain chances return on Tuesday and highs back in the 80s by Thursday!

Another cool day under sunny skies

Hey y’all happy Sunday!!NOW: Thick clouds this morning has kept morning temperatures a but more mild than forecast, therefore frost advisories have been cancelled across NE Florida but continue in SE GA. Temperatures this morning only dropped into the low 40s region wide with some upper 30s across SE ga with mostly cloudy skies. TODAY: Clouds will slowly clear today leading to sunny skies and afternoon highs will reach the upper 50s to low 60s. Winds from the north between 5-10 MPH. MONDAY: As the skies clear tomorrow morning temperatures will drop into the upper 30s to low 40s. Scattered showers will move into the area Monday morning then more widespread showers and thunderstorms will spread across the area in the evening into Tuesday. Severe weather is not expected at this time with these storms. Afternoon highs will warm back up near normal in the low to mid 60s under mostly cloudy skies. REST OF THE WEEK: After Tuesday arctic air moves into the area where overnight lows into Wednesday will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s region wide. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 40s to 50s. Rain chances once again Thursday night into Friday,

This morning will be the “warmest” it’ll get today because cold air will filter in after sunrise.TODAY: The cloud coverage will continue throughout the day today with winds picking up from the NW 10-15 MPH and temperatures will drop into the upper 50s to 60s region wide.SUNDAY: FROST ADVISORY issued for inland counties because overnight lows will drop between 32-34 degrees waking up on Sunday morning. Protect your plants and bring your pets indoors. Clouds will gradually clear leading to sunny skies with upper 50s and low 60s for afternoon highs.REST OF THE WEEK: Rain chances return for MLK day through Tuesday. Then arctic air filters into our region by Wednesday dropping temperatures back to freezing Wednesday morning lasting through Thursday morning.

Happy Sunday, y’all 😊 A few light showers are moving through St. Johns County this morning but are quickly moving out of the area. Overall, a cool start to the morning with upper 40s in SE GA and inland and low to mid 50s area wide. This afternoon I’ll be cool and dreary under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures region wide will reach the upper 50s to low 60s with north winds between 10-15 MPH gusting up to 20 MPH. Monday: Overnight lows will drop into the low to mid 40s for the morning then a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon. Afternoon highs will turn mild in the mid 60s region wide. Rest of the week: Overnight thunderstorms will be possible into Tuesday with gusty winds up to 35 MPH on Tuesday. Temperatures drop into the upper 50s and 60s on Wednesday before rain chances return for the weekend.

Cloudy & Cool Weekend

Hey y’all happy Saturday! This morning showers and thunderstorms will become widespread where the strongest storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall through 10 AM. Rainfall amounts could be between a quarter to a half of an inch of rain. The line of storms will quickly push through our area and by lunch time most of us will be dry with the exception of a pop-up shower in the afternoon. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid to upper 70s today with winds from the south between 15-20 mph with gusts as high as 35 MPH. SUNDAY: Overnight temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 40s region wide under partly cloudy skies with winds from the south at 5-10 MPH. REST OF THE WEEK: Storm chances return to kick off the week Monday and Tuesday where on Tuesday there is a better chance for strong to severe storms.

Freeze Watches issued for Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia

Tonight: Temperatures will drop tonight into the low to mid 30s where freeze watches have been issued inland and across SE Georgia. Bring in your pets and plants tonight and tomorrow. Tuesday: Morning temperatures will be chilly as the freeze alerts continue throughout the morning with a breeze making it feel cooler. Afternoon highs will only warm up in the upper 40s to low 50s region wide with north winds between 10-15 MPH. Rest of the week: Rain chances increase heading into the weekend where we are watching for the chance of rain on Christmas Day.
