Police: 2 children injured, 1 critically, in Northside shootout

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ Two children were injured, one critically, in an exchange of gunfire between two groups Monday afternoon in the Highlands area of the Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office. Mayor Lenny Curry said he was told by the Sheriffโ€™s Office that the child was shot in the head. Iโ€™ve been briefed by Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office. โ€œWeโ€™re getting a lot of support from neighbors and witnesses, so the community support has been pretty good.โ€Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriffโ€™s Office at 904-630-0500. Also on Monday, according to the Sheriffโ€™s Office, a man was wounded in an unrelated shooting about 6:50 p.m. on Ernest Street in Riverside.

Announcement expected on new grocery store in Brentwood, notorious food desert area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla โ€“ City leaders and representatives for Winn-Dixie are expected to discuss it's new location in the Brentwood neighborhood on Wednesday morning. NEW STORY: Open for details of Wednesdayโ€™s eventThe grocery chain is taking over the old Publix building in the Gateway Town Center. The store is currently being renovated and remodeled, but until it opens its doors, residents in the area are living in a food desert. To make sure residents have access to fresh food, Gaffney said Feeding Northeast Florida and Farm Share are teaming up to distribute free food to about 300 residents every week. The press conference is scheduled for 8 a.m. at the Gateway Town Center.

2 Florida Guardsmen killed in I-10 crash

The convoy pulled over to the right of the road, and a car traveling behind the convoy was struck by debris and pulled into a grassy median. Two guardsmen jumped out of the convoy to check on the safety of the second vehicle when a third, oncoming vehicle swerved to avoid debris in the road, striking and killing Capt. Butler Boulevard open again after pickup truck overturned

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ A pickup truck overturned in a crash on J. Turner Butler Boulevard on Thursday afternoon, causing major traffic delays. The crash happened about 1 p.m. in the eastbound lanes just east of Belfort Road. No other information was immediately available.
