With record setting early voting in some counties lines may not be as long for this Presidential election in some areas but that doesn't mean there's a lot of voters who will cast ballots. This is what you need to know if you vote on election day.

"Super Tuesday" is the single biggest day of the 2024 primary campaign with voters in 16 states casting ballots -- although not in Florida or Georgia.

Early voting began Friday in Clay County ahead of the Nov. 8 election with a number of key issues on the ballot.

But predictions that advance voting was to avoid in-person voting on Election Day were apparently true. While voting on Election Day was steady, it was far from record levels. The highest turnout this year was in Collier County, with 90.1%, and Sumter County, with 87.9%. CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The deadline to register to vote in next month’s general election is Monday, October 5th. Clay County Supervisor of Elections, Chris Chambless, said it’s a quick process that can be done by filling out a few lines of information. In Clay County, Chambless said 92% of the eligible population is registered to vote as of Wednesday morning. “We are still receiving updates of individuals that are moving into Clay County from other Florida counties and individuals who are new residents to the state of Florida,” said Chambless. The postcard reminds voters around the country to plan ahead if they intend to vote by mail. It urges voters to request their mail-in ballot at least 15 days before the election. But election officials in Utah, Nevada and Maryland have joined the state of Colorado in publicly rebuking the USPS postcard, because they say their election laws are different. “The postcard contains two pieces of wrong election information for Colorado," said Jena Griswold, Colorado’s Secretary of State. Griswold said the mailer is inaccurate because every voter in Colorado is already automatically sent a sample ballot through email.

Amid additional security of vote-by-mail ballots this year and higher use of them due to the coronavirus pandemic, plus concerns of voter fraud voiced by President Donald Trump, Clay County’s supervisor of elections proactively released details of how the process worked during the August primary. “Oftentimes, I am asked about the validity and security of vote-by-mail ballots and whether or not they are counted,” Chris Chambless said. Chambless said stories about mail delivery issues circulating about the time of the primary election were not evident to him. In 2016, the Florida Legislature pushed the date that voters can request a ballot by mail to 10 days before each election to ensure enough time to have them returned by first-class mail by Election Day. While the total number of vote-by-mail votes was small, more than half of those were because of signature issues and urged voters to follow directions when submitting their votes and following up to make sure they count.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Michelle Cook has defeated suspended Darryl Daniels in the Republican primary for sheriff of Clay County. Cook, a Clay County resident who worked at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for more than 20 years and most recently was chief of the Atlantic Beach Police Department, got 37% of the vote in a six-way race.
