A local man is looking for answers and claims he didn’t get what was advertised online when he bought tickets to a New Year’s Eve bar crawl event.

The Florida Department of Health in Nassau County has learned it will receive 975 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week, county emergency management officials said Tuesday. Nassau County Director of Emergency Management Greg Foster said more than 8,800 people have registered their names on a waitlist with Eventbrite. Foster said that on Tuesday, Eventbrite will begin notifying people by email if their name was randomly selected from the waitlist to receive a vaccine dose from this allotment. People who registered but do not have an email address will be contacted by phone to set up their appointment. “We have spent a lot of time removing duplicate names, some of whom have registered several times, “ Foster said.

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – The Board of County Commissioners in Nassau County has approved a waitlist procedure, it says, to improve the process for county residents preparing to get a COVID-19 vaccination. Residents will be ale to enter someone’s name on the waitlist from Jan. 15 through Jan. 19. Foster says residents can take their time and register online by still going to www.onenassau.com and clicking on the “COVID VACCINE” button. This system will use software that picks those on the waitlist randomly, according to Foster, when vaccine becomes available. However, no additional appointments were made this week because Nassau County did not receive additional vaccine allotments.

According to recent news reports , scammers used the popular event website Eventbrite to pose as county health departments and take or attempt to take payments in exchange for COVID-19 vaccine appointments. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody issued a Consumer Alert warning Floridians about the COVID-19 vaccine scam. “Consumer Protection investigators and criminal prosecutors in my office are aggressively pursuing reports of scammers taking money in exchange for phony COVID-19 vaccine reservations,” Moody said. “If you have been a victim of this scam, please contact my office so we can end this fraud and help protect those seeking vaccinations.”States are overseeing the free COVID-19 vaccine distribution rather than the federal government. To help manage appointment scheduling, several counties in Florida have turned to ticketing services like Eventbrite; however, NO county is charging for vaccine reservations!

The Eventbrite page for "AfroFuture Fest," hosted by Afrofuture Youth, advertised an "Early Bird POC Ticket" for $10 -- with POC meaning "people of color" -- and an "Early Bird NONPOC Ticket" for $20. The group says its reasoning for doubling ticket prices for white people was because white people have the privilege to attend festivals in "POC populated cities." "This cycle disproportionately displaces black and brown people from enjoying entertainment in their own communities," the group said on Eventbrite. The group added that they're promoting "equity over equality" for black youth. CNN has reached out to Afrofuture Youth and Tiny Jag for comment, but has not heard back.
