Putnam County Animal Services on Friday is holding a free adoption event after close to 200 dogs were found at a house in Interlachen earlier this week.

The elderly owner of the nearly 200 dogs that were found at an Interlachen residence on Wednesday won’t face criminal charges, according to Putnam County officials.

About 100 small mix-breed dogs were removed from an Interlachen residence on Wednesday by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Putnam County Animal Control.

Detectives arrested a 31-year-old Palatka man accused of threatening a mass shooting on social media, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

The death is being investigated as a tragic accident, and an “unimaginable loss.”

PALATKA, Fla. – Human remains found over the weekend in a shallow grave outside Crescent City were identified as those of a missing 20-year-old Putnam County mother, authorities said Tuesday. Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Col. Joseph Wells announced at a news conference Tuesday afternoon that the medical examiner ruled Nyeisha Nelson’s death a homicide, but he did not say how she was killed. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Nelson, a self-employed hairdresser, was reported missing by her family on Wednesday after she had not been seen or heard from for several days. Nelson’s car was found Thursday abandoned in a wooded area off Old U.S. 17 not far from Crescent City. “But the exact motive is not known.”Wells said the investigation suggests that someone may have used Nelson’s car after she disappeared.

SATSUMA, Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were searching Wednesday for a missing 11-year-old girl. At about midnight, investigators told News4Jax she was found. According to Col. Joseph Wells, she was located several miles from her house walking along a road. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Several Northeast Florida law enforcement agencies are ready to help with security at the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville. Every inmate in the Putnam County Jail receives a thorough medical evaluation upon arrival and daily for the duration of their stay.Proactive inmate testing will continue as recommended by the Florida Department of health. Only essential personnel are permitted inside the jail at this time and every person entering the jail must undergo thorough medical screening.
