18-year-old Lyons Township grad, Dayton freshman remembered after dying of COVID-19; ‘It hurts that I will not see him come back and visit’
"I always like to bring up things from past bowlers to teach lessons, and last year for playoffs, Michael created one (I will) use . We were at regionals last year and not bowling so well after the morning three games, and the team energy was low. The team went out to our bus to eat lunch and I talked to the squad as all coaches would do and then left them alone to eat their lunch. Unbeknownst to me, Michael got on the team bus after me and apparently really got the squad motivated. I did not find this out until after we had won regionals.chicagotribune.com
Isaias is no Irma or Matthew or Michael - thankfully
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Isaias has weakened considerably and is probably no longer a hurricane, but as a comparison to what the State of Florida has seen, Michael (Cat 5, Mexico Beach, 2018), Irma (Cat 4, Entire State, 2017) and Matthew (Cat 3, East Coast, 2016) Isaias has always been more bark than reality. Hopefully this will continue. Still anticipated to remain on the expected track, Isaias may slow down and drift a little left of the current National Hurricane Center track, that is just east of the State. That track was based on maintaining hurricane status. Even as a strong tropical storm, the entire East Coast of the State of Florida need to alert to regeneration of heavy flooding rains, especially right along the coast.
White Sox top pitching prospect Kopech opts out this year
CHICAGO Chicago White Sox prized pitching prospect Michael Kopech chose Friday not to play this season and the team put star third baseman Yon Moncada and pitcher Jose Ruiz on the 10-day injured list because of unspecified ailments. The White Sox believe they are poised for a turnaround after seven straight losing seasons. But losing Kopech for the season and Moncada for at least a little while are big blows. Both players had been absent since the White Sox resumed workouts last week for the first time since Major League Baseball shut down camps in March. Kopech was acquired by Chicago in the December 2016 trade that sent Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox.

In a news conference on Thursday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the decision to honor Vick. The NFL's decision to name Vick as one of the 2020 Pro Bowl Legends Captains, a role that would see him mentor players and coach from the sidelines, was quickly met with criticism. The Pro Bowl will take place on January 26, 2019, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.cbsnews.com

Insurers, attorneys point fingers in Michael aftermath
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Insurers and attorneys blamed each other Tuesday as about 17,000 insurance claims from Hurricane Michael remained unsettled just over a year after the deadly storm ravaged parts of the Panhandle. "An attorney can get an unlimited amount of money for suing a property insurance company in Florida," Burt said. While insurers typically are responsible for covering wind damage, they might not have to pay if the damage can be pinned on flooding. Sen. Hollywood works to improve representation of people with disabilities
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - The second season of SundanceTV's dramedy "This Close" opens with what would be a terrifying experience for anyone. But Michael, like Feldman, is deaf and his attempts to express his situation through sign language go increasingly to no avail. But one of the ways that storytelling, casting and hiring frequently fail to deliver is when it comes to representation of people who are disabled. Lauren Appelbaum, the vice president of communications for nonprofit and outreach group RespectAbility -- and author of guidebook "The Hollywood Disability Inclusion Toolkit"-- said this work needs to begin at entry-level employment. There are also questions of how, and when, a disabled person working in Hollywood should divulge this information to an employer.
Giant pumice stone could help heal Australia's Great Barrier Reef
We could just see the edge where it went back to regular water -- shiny water -- at night," Michael added, saying they could see the rock from every direction. The pumice, which is filled with holes and cavities, floats like an iceberg does, with about 90% underwater and 10% above water, the pair explained. When the pumice makes its way to the Great Barrier Reef, the sea life attached will travel too, potentially bringing diverse new colonies of barnacles, corals and more. "This is a way for healthy, young corals to be rapidly introduced to the Great Barrier Reef," he said. In 2016 and 2017, marine heat waves caused by climate change resulted in mass bleaching, which killed about half of the corals on the Great Barrier Reef, along with many others around the world.
