Jamie Newman completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Trevon Grimes with 49 seconds left for the American team after Franks and Yeboah made it a two-score game.

An Alabama state commission acted Friday to protect the schooner Clotilda, believed to be the last ship to bring enslaved people to the United States from Africa. The claim will ensure that the Clotilda, which sank in the Mobile River in 1860, remains a publicly owned resource, the commission said in a statement. "By preserving the Clotilda, Alabama has the opportunity to preserve a piece of history," Gov. Experts and volunteers got to work to determine whether the remains really belonged to the last known slave ship. The state announced last May that the wreck in the Mobile River had been positively identified as the Clotilda.

Read full article: 5th earthquake in 3 weeks shakes Alabama-Florida state line

MOBILE, Ala. โ€“ Another weak earthquake has struck near the Alabama-Florida state line. The U.S. Geological Survey said a 2.7 magnitude quake hit an area about 2 miles east of Century, Florida, on Sunday. The earthquakes occurring along the Florida-Alabama line are more rare, as this area is not located on a fault line. These weak earthquakes are occurring along a boundary within the plate and are called intraplate earthquakes. No damage was reported from the weak quake, which the Geological Survey says was too weak for most people to even feel.
