(Mexican tax agency SAT via AP)MEXICO CITY – Mexican customs officials have seized purported vials of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine en route to Honduras that the Russian entity that bankrolled the vaccine’s development said Thursday were fake. The RDIF also drew geopolitics into the mix, saying, “This is an example of possible provocations against Sputnik V just as Russian officials warned last week. The source said that the alleged plan is to paint Sputnik V as ineffective and dangerous, including by “staging mass deaths, allegedly as a result of using” the vaccine. NEW YORK – The College Board said Tuesday it will eliminate the optional essay from the SAT and do away with subject tests amid a changing college admissions landscape. The optional essay adds about another hour and is scored separately, as were the lesser required subject tests given in specific areas like chemistry or foreign languages. The subject tests will immediately end for U.S. students and will be phased out for international students by June. The optional essay will be discontinued after June testing sessions. Nearly 2.2 million 2020 high school graduates took the SAT before the pandemic shut down schools, according to the College Board.

The College Board announced Tuesday that it's pausing plans for the remote exam but still hopes to make it possible in the future. Offering the test at home would have required three hours of uninterrupted internet access, the company said. "There are more important things than tests right now," said David Coleman, CEO of the College Board. Nearly 20,000 of the more than 4.6 million timed tests taken at home resulted in errors, according to data from the College Board. The College Board has denied that the test is discriminatory.

Approval sought for Best and Brightest' settlement

Read full article: Approval sought for Best and Brightest' settlement

The settlement stems from a long-controversial decision by lawmakers to partly base Best and Brightest bonuses on teachers' scores on SAT and ACT college-admission exams. Under the settlement, money will go to black and Hispanic classroom teachers who were rated as "highly effective" but did not receive Best and Brightest bonuses since the program took effect in 2015. The settlement said the state denies the allegations that the program had a disparate impact on black, Hispanic and older teachers. The settlement creates a formula for determining the amount of payments to black and Hispanic teachers who are eligible, but the exact amounts of payment remain unclear. While the parties sought preliminary approval of the settlement Thursday, they plan to seek final approval after a period in which teachers can "opt out."

New SAT 'adversity score' no longer happening

Read full article: New SAT 'adversity score' no longer happening

Greg Kilday/CNN(CNN) - The nonprofit that administers the SAT college admissions test is replacing its "adversity score" with a tool that will not assign a single number combining high school and neighborhood information. The new tool will allow schools, students and families to see the same information about high schools and neighborhoods that colleges see. Colleges have long considered information regarding students' high schools and neighborhoods when making admissions decisions. College Board's announcement also comes after the massive college admissions scandal, which exposed affluent parents cheating the admissions system. "Landscape provides admissions officers more consistent background information so they can fairly consider every student, no matter where they live and learn."
