Jacksonville Councilman Rory Diamond introduced legislation Tuesday that would fund the installation of Safe Haven baby boxes at a fire station in each city council district, giving parents in crisis a secure, anonymous option to surrender newborns.

A bill that will give parents more time to surrender unharmed newborns to hospitals, fire stations, and EMS services is waiting to be signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.

The Florida nonprofit Safe Haven for Newborns has now saved more than 400 infants since opening the agency over 20 years ago.
