The St. Johns River State College softball team is one win closer to repeating as the NJCAA D2 softball champions! The Vikings beat Mercer County 9-2 in the first game of the World Series in Oxford, Alabama.

UNF is making its NCAA Division I Tournament debut Friday after winning its very first conference championship.  SJR State is hoping to defend its national title as the team is heading back to the World Series in its league. The Vikings won it all last season.

The St. Johns River State College Vikings are the defending champs and are looking for back-to-back titles. The Vikings are getting up Saturday at 8 a.m. and hitting the road from Palatka to Oxford, Alabama, where the World Series is being played next week.

The focus is 2030, which is the projected year when all of the construction is expected to be done.

High school athletes could first sign letters of intent with college programs last month. That picks up again this week when more local athletes put pen to paper and make their choices official.

Alyssa Vallad’s crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to slap an exclamation point on the most dominant close to a season in program history and deliver the Vikings a 7-5 win over Kirkwood for the NJCAA Division II title in Spartanburg, SC.

The dream ride of the St. Johns River State College softball team continues, and it’s taken the Vikings all the way to the NJCAA Division II national championship game.

A local college’s baseball and softball teams are capping off historic seasons in a unique way.
