In the Navy, many toss around the word “family” casually. Divisions become families. Departments become families. Berthing members become families. Co-workers who spend 18 hours a day working together and another six sleeping near each other become family members.

January is national Stalking Awareness Month. And on Monday, counselors at Naval Station Mayport spoke out against stalking and shared available resources to Sailors and their families.

VP-16's 300 sailors spent six months throughout the U.S. Indo-Pacific command area of responsibility. They provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance in Japan, the Philippines, Guam, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Australia and Papua New Guinea.

The USS Detroit and the USS Little Rock were decommissioned just six and seven years after they went into service. The USS Sioux City was decommissioned in August. The USS Milwaukee was decommissioned last month. There are now five Littoral Combat Ships at Mayport.

On Sunday morning, 330 sailors returned to Naval Station Mayport Sunday when the USS Jason Dunham docked following a nearly seven-month-long deployment.

The 15 enlisted women serving aboard the ballistic-missile submarine USS Wyoming recently reached a milestone accomplishment for all women who serve.

The sailors of the USS Billings returned from a four-month deployment Saturday just in time to enjoy some trick-or-treating with their families this weekend.
