A tropical low-pressure system is expected to bring rain and storms to Jacksonville and surrounding areas this afternoon as The Weather Authority tracks its path across Florida and into the Gulf.

Summer has brought hot temperatures and frequent afternoon thunderstorms to Northeast Florida, with The Weather Authority forecasting ongoing rain, heat indices near triple digits, and a frontal boundary affecting the weekend weather pattern.

With summer temperatures in the upper 90s and feels-like temperatures in the triple digits, this summer has been one of the hottest on record. It would make sense for electric bills to rise along with the temperatures, but some consumers News4JAX spoke with say their bills have actually gone down.

A Baker County mother of four is accused of leaving her kids unattended in a car for at least 20 minutes on Friday, which was noted as one of the hottest days of the month, according to a Baker County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

Florida is known for its hot summer days and sandy shores, but for many new residents, this may be their first summer in the Sunshine State.
