Bicyclists identified in deadly St. Johns hit-and-run crash

Formal charges accuse Henry Haigler of leaving scene of deadly accident

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Formal charges have been filed against a St. Johns County man accused of hitting and killing two bicyclists.

Legal documents filed Monday identified the bicyclists as Susanne Landino, 61, and Bonnie Parry, 53, both of Jacksonville. Bunny Swiatocha said Landino was a neighbor and friend.

"Go-getter. Soft. Sweet," Swiatocha said. "She was that girl if I needed help with the computer or anything. She was my person."

Henry Haigler, 37, was arrested on two felony charges of hit-and-run and later bonded out of jail. The crash happened on June 15 on Racetrack Road.

"I was supposed to go on that bike ride with her (Landino) but I had trouble with my hip," Swiatocha said.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a witness said Haigler got out of his car, looked at the crash, got back in his car and left. His car was seen on surveillance video and a fog lamp from his car was found at the scene.

Haigler's listed address is in the same neighborhood that Landino lived. No one answered the door at the home Monday.

The formal charges accuse Haigler of leaving the scene of a deadly accident. St. Johns County deputies said Haigler turned himself into authorities several days after the hit-and-run. He is scheduled for an arraignment on July 29.
