Sobering statistic: 13 people shot in Jacksonville in 4 days

2 people found shot Friday night at Majestic Plaza Apartments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office were sent to investigate a double shooting at the Majestic Plaza Apartments on Friday night. By News4Jax count, 13 people have been shot in the past 4 days.

The scene was on West 36th Street near Moncrief Road. Police said at about 7 p.m. a man and a woman were shot. They were hospitalized and said to be in stable condition.

The woman said her 7-year-old daughter heard the gunshots and saw the aftermath of the shooting.

"That's the reason I don't let her go outside, because of the gunshots, because of the stabbings, because of the ignorancy that goes around," the woman said.

She said she hopes to soon move out of the apartment complex.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, 33 crimes have been reported in the past month within a half-mile radius of the apartment complex. Those crimes include assault, burglary and car break-ins.

News4Jax has a crew at the scene working to gather more information from police.

Friday night's shooting was the latest in a string of violence over the past few days in Jacksonville. On Thursday, three people were shot in three separate shootings. One of the shootings involved a teenager.

On Wednesday, as Hurricane Dorian was moving away from Florida, a man was found shot at an Amoco gas station in Arlington and later died from his injuries. Not long after, News4Jax learned of a quadruple shooting in Jacksonville's North Shore neighborhood.
