Gabreon Brown Sr., 31, of Callahan, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and armed burglary with battery, records show.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the case against Brown began last Sunday night when Nassau County deputies were called to a home on Caulkins Drive in Callahan to investigate a stabbing.

Detectives said the victim had been stabbed multiple times in the stomach after Brown and another man forced their way into the victim’s home and attacked him. The victim was said to be in critical condition when he was taken to UF Health in Jacksonville. The victim also had to undergo an emergency operation to save his life. When detectives searched the property, they said they found a trail of blood between the living room and the front porch.

According to the report, a witness told detectives the victim had just finished taking a shower and wrapped a blanket around his body to stay warm when someone knocked on the front door. The affidavit states that when the victim asked who was at the door, a voice on the other side of the door said, “It’s Michael.” The witness said the victim opened the door and then immediately tried to close it when he saw Brown and the other man trying to force their way into the house, the report says.

The witness, investigators say, said Brown and the other man managed to push through and began fighting the victim. The affidavit states the fight was carried out on the front porch where the victim tripped on the blanket and fell to the ground. According to the witness, the report says, while the victim was on the ground, she saw Brown pull out a knife and stab the victim multiple times. As the stabbing was happening, the witness said she could hear the voice of someone yelling from the getaway vehicle that was parked in the driveway before the attackers jumped in the car and took off.

According to the arrest affidavit, the witness identified the voice coming from the getaway car as Somer Edwards, identified in the affidavit as “suspect #2.” The report states that the witness told detectives that she and Edwards used to be friends until last December when the two got into an argument over money. She told detectives that during that argument, Brown was also present and threatened to “Blow her brains out with an AK-47,” the report states.

A detective went to UF Health to try and speak with the victim, but was unable to due to the victim being rushed into surgery, the report states.  The following day, the detective learned the victim was still critical but stable and was about to undergo a second surgery. The victim was also on a ventilator and could not speak.

Needing more information to crack open the case, the detective got a hold of a copy of the 911 call to dispatch. The following is a transcript of the call:

[DISPATCHER]

“Who stabbed you?”

[VICTIM]

“His name is Gabe.”

“They just drove out of the neighborhood in a clunky old red junk car.”

[DISPATCH]

“Where would they have gone from there?”

[VICTIM]

“Probably Somer’s house.”

Then the detective listened to the conversation between the witness and the 911 dispatcher. The following is a transcript of the call:

[DISPATCHER]

“Who stabbed him?”

[WITNESS]

“Gabe and Somer Edwards”

“Hauled ass in the car.”

“There was a big, tall white guy with them as well.”

[DISPATCHER]

“Who all stabbed him?”

[WITNESS]

“It was Gabe.”

“Somer was in the car.”

“He came into my house, threw him down, and then started beating him up and then grabbed a knife.”

The affidavit states that the witness later met with a detective and the state attorney when she provided them with a text message that allegedly came from Edwards four weeks prior to the attack.

According to the affidavit, the message said: “Me N Gabe will be paying y’all a visit. U (expletive) with the wrong ones. And keep it up. Ur done.”

Based on the evidence and the witness statement, a judge signed off on an arrest warrant for Brown who was later taken into custody last Thursday.

It was unclear if Edwards had been arrested, and the identity of the other man who was involved had yet to be revealed.

Brown remained in the Nassau County Jail without bond as of Monday afternoon.
