71-year-old man dies in crash on I-295 near Commonwealth Avenue

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A deadly crash was blocking the right northbound lane of Interstate 295, just before Commonwealth Avenue, on Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, the semi-truck was traveling north I-295, south of Pritchard Road in the outside lane. The driver lost control of the truck and ran off the roadway, striking a light pole.

The truck continued through the grassy ditch and struck trees further down the ditch before stopping, FHP said.

The driver, a 71-year-old man, later died at a hospital.

It’s unclear when all lanes will reopen.
