JSO corrections officer arrested in Manatee County on attempted sexual battery charge

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 21-year-old corrections officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was arrested in Manatee County on an attempted sexual battery charge.

According to JSO, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) began an investigation that led the department to issue a warrant for Erik L. Zapata’s arrest.

The circumstances surrounding the arrest were not provided.

JSO said it learned about his arrest on Thursday. Zapata was charged with one count of attempted sexual battery.

JSO’s Special Assault Unit and Integrity Unit are working with MCSO in the case.

Zapata worked with JSO for two years. He also resigned from his position.

This is the 10th arrest of a JSO employee this year.
