Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect for Brantley, Glynn and Camden Counties in southeast GA from 11 AM thru 8 PM today, where heat index values will peak in the 113° thru 115° range.
Heat Advisories are in effect across the rest of our area from 11 AM thru 8 PM, as heat index values peak in the 108° thru 112° range.
Here are a few tips to keep your cool as the heat ramps up: Drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activity during the daytime, wear loose, light-colored clothing, take plenty of breaks in the shade, apply sunscreen regularly, and NEVER ever leave children or pets in the car for any length of time
The heat will be the biggest story throughout the rest of the weekend, with the combination of high temperatures and humidity making it feel considerably hotter outdoors.
A few showers and thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon and evening, but storms will be scattered, so not everyone will see rain.
Looking ahead, the heat is expected to continue through much of next week, with afternoon temperatures generally in the mid 90s and additional chances for thunderstorms. The National Weather Service is warning of dangerous heat and humidity, with heat-index values potentially reaching around 108 degrees or higher in parts of the region.
