JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida announced Wednesday that Kevin Carrico, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, has stepped down from the organization after over 10 years.

We appreciate Kevin’s service and contributions to Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida and wish him and his family well in this next chapter,” said Blake Wilson, Chairman of BGCNF’s Board of Governors. “Our focus has always been, and continues to be, on the young people and families we serve. On average, BGCNF serves nearly 15,000 registered members annually across 55 locations. That work is possible because of an extraordinary team and a community of donors, volunteers, and partners committed to helping young people reach their full potential and build great futures.

This comes one day after he announced that he joined the World Law Foundation Board of Trustees.
Carrico’s departure comes months after controversy surrounding his attempt to appoint his boss, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida President and CEO Paul Martinez, to the JEA board.
Carrico introduced a resolution in February to replace JEA board member Arthur Adams Jr. with Martinez. Text messages Carrico sent to Adams described the appointment as a “big favor” he needed to do for “my guy.”
Martinez withdrew from consideration after the messages became public. Carrico said Martinez was selected based on his qualifications and denied the appointment involved a transactional favor.
The State Attorney’s Office later subpoenaed Carrico’s calendars and communications related to the appointment. In June, unredacted messages showed Carrico and Martinez discussing a JEA-owned property in Nassau County that had been considered for use by a Boys & Girls Club foundation.
The property was appraised at more than $1 million, and a draft proposal to lease it for $1 a year was never signed. Martinez denied the property discussions were connected to his potential JEA appointment before he withdrew his name for consideration.
Carrico sent the following statement to News4JAX, saying he’s looking forward to starting his next chapter.
It has been one of the great privileges of my professional life to support the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida and the young people and families it serves. After more than a decade with the organization, I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished together, grateful for the relationships built along the way and confident the Club will continue changing lives throughout Northeast Florida. As I begin my next chapter, I’m excited to build something new and look forward to sharing more in the coming days.
