Super 6 independent football rankings, Week 2

Ranking (previous) team, last season, league

1. (1) West Nassau (1-0, SSAA)

Last week: beat (5) Paxon, 35-20. This week: vs. Charlton County (0-0).

Coaches poll ranking: 1.

Why they’re here: The Warriors picked up where they left off, getting behind their big offensive line and overwhelming a good team. West Nassau rushed for 392 yards and averaged 7.5 ypc. Should be a good challenge this week in a Peach-Sunshine State clash.

2. (2) Fernandina Beach (1-0, SSAA)

Last week: beat Keystone Heights, 65-14. This week: vs. Tallahassee Leon (0-1).

Coaches poll ranking: 2.

Why they’re here: The Pirates opened with a bang as the playmakers had their day. Beck Rohe had two TDs on three receptions. If Rohe and Aydin Poe stay healthy all year, the Pirates are going to put up some numbers.

3. (3) Union County (1-0, SSAA)

Last week: beat Lafayette, 21-7. This week: at Rutherford (0-0), 7:30 p.m.

Coaches poll ranking: 3.

Why they’re here: A solid start for the Tigers last week which is followed by a lengthy road trip to the Panhandle. For a team that didn’t have much success last year, a win out of the gate is a great start.

4. (5) Episcopal (1-0, SSAA)

Last week: beat Westminster Academy, 27-26. This week: at Providence (0-0).

Coaches poll ranking: 6.

Why they’re here: Huge win for the Eagles last week over a Westminster team coming off an 8-3 season. This week is a huge rivalry clash against another team in the independent Super 6 conversation.

5. (4) Paxon (0-1, SSAA)

Last week: lost to (1) West Nassau, 35-20. This week: at Wolfson (0-0), 6:30 p.m.

Coaches poll ranking: 5.

Why they’re here: The Golden Eagles slugged it out with No. 1 West Nassau, but just couldn’t stop the ground game. This week should be a good clash between very similar programs.

6. (NR) Christ’s Church Academy (1-0, SSAA)

Last week: beat St. Joseph, 48-21. This week: vs. First Coast Christian (0-1).

Coaches poll ranking: 4.

Why they’re here: A huge evening on the ground as Rayden Butts and Jaylin Robinson both eclipsed 100 yards on the ground and helped the Eagles average a crazy 9.6 ypc.
