Hundreds of kids and even adults are set to have some gifts under their Christmas trees thanks to the St. Johns County Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.

The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida announced that the Thanksgiving assistance and Angel Tree applications are now open through Oct. 4.

The Salvation Army provided Christmas gifts to 1,900 children in Jacksonville as part of the annual Angel Tree event, which was held Thursday at the Regency Square Mall.

During the holidays, some faith groups and congregations across the United States work to bring some Christmas cheer—and connection—to prisoners and their children.

With the holiday season just around the corner, The Salvation Army has released its application due dates for families in need of assistance for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

The charity is handing out presents through its Angel Tree program Wednesday, December 16th. With about 1,000 angels still needing to be adopted ahead of the Angel Tree giveaway, Major Biggers is concerned, but staying optimistic. An angel tree bag of presents can contain toys, clothes, or even a bigger item like a child’s bicycle. Major Biggers says the Salvation Army angels can be adopted at the Avenues Mall, participating Walmart stores, and Ashley HomeStore locations. The Angel Tree distribution is happening Wednesday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – More than 2,500 children, who otherwise would not have Christmas presents, will receive gifts this year thanks to the Salvation Army in Jacksonville Angel Tree program. The children in the Angel Tree program are ages 0-12 and are from families who applied for holiday assistance with The Salvation Army in October and demonstrated financial hardship. Individuals, businesses and church groups “adopted” the children by picking up Angel Tree tags from trees at the Avenues Mall, Ashley Homestores and Sonny’s BBQ across the area. I can only imagine what the children’s’ faces are going to be like when they see their presents on Christmas Day,” Area Commander Keath Biggers said. The Salvation Army in Jacksonville Angel Tree gift distribution will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Regency Square Mall at 9501 Arlington Expressway.
