A helicopter owned by the Anastasia Mosquito Control District in St. Johns County made the emergency landing near the fifth hole of the St. Johns Country Club, off State Road 207 just west of Interstate 95, according to the Florida Highway Patrol
Star light, star bright: St. Johns County hosts drive-in astronomy night
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. โ St. Johns County has an out of this world idea for a fun (and educational) night with the family. The countyโs Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Ancient City Astronomy Club to offer free Astronomy 101 class under the stars Thursday night. The event is from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the RV facilities at the Fairgrounds at 5840 State Road 207 in Elkton. Families can register to reserve a parking space for the event. All participants must remain in their parking space, and each space allows for up to five people.
St. Johns County business picks up pieces after severe storm
ELKTON, Fla. โ A powerful storm that swept through Northeast Florida before dawn Saturday left residents and business owners to spend the weekend cleaning up. The National Weather Service said an EF-1 tornado ripped through Flagler County for nearly 20 miles, and parts of Putnam and St. Johns counties were affected by the severe storm. The storm left a wake of damage in Elkton just after 5 a.m. along County Road 305 off State Road 207 near FL Custom Kitchen and Bath. Laura Orlowski, who owns the business, said there used to be two massive metal doors that would slide together in the front of the building, but after the storm ripped through, the doors blew off. โWell we seen parts flying through the air,โ Shelandoah Willis said.
Delaware man accused of threatening mass violence at food warehouse
ELKTON, Maryland (CNN) - A Delaware man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a supervisor and making threats of mass violence at the food distribution warehouse where he worked, Maryland State Police said. Brian Knight, 26, was charged with threat of mass violence, second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property after he was arrested without incident Friday at his home in Newark, Delaware, according to the state police. Troopers were called to the Elkton, Maryland, warehouse on Thursday about "an irate individual ... damaging property and threatening to kill everyone in the building," the state police said in a statement. Witness told police that Knight had assaulted his supervisor, smashed items and damaged property, the statement said. He also allegedly made threats of mass violence before leaving in his car.
