On the heels of Hulu's announcement of a Tyson miniseries to be made without his involvement, the boxing great said he's producing a limited series starring Jamie Foxx. Filmmaker Martin Scorsese and Foxx also are among the producers. Last month, Hulu said it had ordered the eight-episode series “Iron Mike,” saying it would explore the “the wild, tragic and controversial life and career” of a polarizing athlete.
Critics amused by fun, flare from movie studios during awards seasons
The movie awards experience can be crazy for those nominated. Netflix even sent a nice folder, featuring a sheet of music from the “Mank” soundtrack, signed by the composers. Ad“The United States vs. Billie Holiday” tells the story of the acclaimed singer, known for wearing a gardenia in her hair, so the studio shipped fragrance oil diffusers with the scent of Tahitian gardenia. In “Palm Springs,” Andy Samberg drinks a lot of “Akupara” beer, so Hulu shipped a four-pack of specially-created brewskis to critics. “Borat” star Sacha Baron Cohen not only made a direct appeal for awards consideration, but also did a public service, sending out some personal protective equipment.

Tyson, who is not involved in the project, criticized Hulu on social media, saying the series smacked of insensitivity. “Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising,” Tyson said in an Instagram post. The eight-episode “Iron Mike” is from the makers of “I, Tonya,” the 2017 movie that starred Margot Robbie as ice skater Tonya Harding.

NEW YORK – The Walt Disney Co.’s streaming plans shifted into hyper speed Thursday, as the studio unveiled a galaxy’s worth of new streaming offerings including plans for 10 “Star Wars” series spinoffs and 10 Marvel series that will debut on Disney+. But Disney also kept its biggest films — including Marvel's “Black Widow," Pixar's “Luca,” a “Lion King” prequel — on course for theatrical release. Jenkins becomes the first woman to direct a “Star Wars” film. Among the “Star Wars” series are two spinoffs of “The Mandalorian,” set during the series' timeline: “Rangers of the New Republic” and “Ahsoka,” with Rosario Dawson. Seven Disney films topped $1 billion worldwide.

The dark comedy horror is “only a film," they say, but the story’s underlying messages of harmful hair weave and false beauty standards for Black women had a lasting effect. Ultimately, she discovers that her newly installed hair is possessed, taking over her body and causing harm to others. A weave is a popular method where hair wefts are sewn onto braided hair and styled in any manner. He said the writing process started with talking to some of his closest friends who are Black women.

New streaming package with Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu is just $13
CNN video(CNN) - Disney is putting together a massive streaming package for its fans when its Disney+ service launches in November. The company said Tuesday that it will offer a bundle that includes Disney+, ESPN+ and commercial-supported Hulu for $12.99 a month. Hulu alone costs $11.99 a month for the plan without ads or $5.99 a month with ads, ESPN+ is $4.99 a month, and Disney+ will be $6.99. The standard monthly subscription cost for Netflix is $12.99, and Amazon Prime's video streaming service is $8.99 a month. The-CNN-Wire & 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.

'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' Star Shameik Moore Wants Sequel to Go Live Action
Shameik Moore knows what he'd like to happen in the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Spider-Verse writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently penning the follow-up film, but Moore teased he's not allowed to talk about what's in store. "I'm Cuban-American and... were linked, so obviously thats something thats a really interesting dimension of the character that's left to be explored further." For now, fans can look forward to seeing Moore onscreen in Wu-Tang: An American Saga, debuting Sept. 4 on Hulu. "My audition process to becoming this character was, I think, becoming the character," explained Moore, who plays Sha in the series.
'Designing Women' will stream on Hulu
Hulu via CNN(CNN) - Hulu has made all the arrangements for your next nostalgic binge watch. The streaming network will soon be home to all 163 episodes of "Designing Women." Hulu boss Craig Erwich said the service has been successful in attracting eyeballs to beloved TV series like "ER" and "Seinfeld." "Designing Women" originally ran on CBS for seven seasons from 1986-1993. In making the announcement on Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour, Erwich praised the show for being "ahead of its time."
'The Handmaid's Tale' renewed for Season 4
(CNN) - Hulu has renewed its dystopian drama "The Handmaid's Tale" for a fourth season, CNN has learned. The Emmy-winning series is based on author Margaret Atwood's acclaimed novel and is set in, what the cast and writers argue, is a not-to-distant-future. "The Handmaid's Tale" is currently in its third season and airs Wednesdays on Hulu. A premiere date for Season 4 has not been announced. There, it was also announced that Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will be a special-guest star in the second season of comedian and creator Ramy Youssef's semi-autobiographical dramedy "Ramy."

The actress and comedian will return to TV in 2020 with a new comedy series for the streaming network, titled "Love, Beth." Schumer previously starred in her own comedy sketch show for Comedy Central, "Inside Amy Schumer." After the show's conclusion, Schumer turned her attention to film, with outings like 2017's "Snatched" and 2018's "I Feel Pretty."
Padma Lakshmi Gets New Show at Hulu
Padma Lakshmi is getting a new show at Hulu. The streaming service has greenlit a 10-episode untitled series by theTop Chef host, it announced at Friday's Television Critics Association summer press tour. Hulu is getting into the Amy Schumer business. The comedian has signed a first-look deal with the streaming service and will kick off the partnership with her new comedy series, Love, Beth. Details are being kept under wraps for Love, Beth, but the half-hour series, which will star Schumer, is expected to launch on Hulu in late 2020. Two weeks after giving birth, Schumer debuted her Netflix stand-up comedy special, Amy Schumer: Growing. Will Georgia start taxing Netflix, Spotify, other services?
Georgia lawmakers are considering a possible tax on internet services like Netflix and Hulu. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Georgia lawmakers are pushing for a tax on internet downloads, which would include things like digital video, books and video games. Legislators believe a tax could subsidize construction of high-speed internet in typically poorly served rural areas like Southeast Georgia. The AJC reports that both Georgia Gov. Few states have adopted this type of tax, but it is being introduced in other state Legislatures around the country.
