Christopher Ambrosio, 48, was arrested by the Atlantic Beach Police Department on a charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor. He has the right to reply to the resolution, and if requested, the Council will fix a time for a public hearing. AdCouncil also approved termination of Ambrosio’s additional pay, which is effective April 1. It also approved termination of the attorney’s health, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, which is effective June 1.

AdIn February, according to the report, Ambrosio and the alleged victim texted each other and Ambrosio invited them over for a sleepover. Ambrosio told police he was the attorney for the City of Jacksonville Beach and that he knows lots of police, according to the report. The city administration and the Jacksonville Beach City Council sent out a statement saying they are aware of the arrest and saying the council will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday to talk about the arrest. Ambrosio was appointed a little over a year ago as City Attorney to all city departments, including Beaches Energy Services and the Jacksonville Beach Police Department and serves as general counsel to the City Council and boards.

During a Monday evening meeting of the Jacksonville Beach City Council, leaders discussed whether to mandate having people wear face masks in public, which health experts have said help thwart the spread of the virus. Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham said its been to lead by example and strongly encourage everyone to wear face masks. Other Council members seemed to agree when the mayor who said its not a good move to make wearing face masks mandatory. Mandatory face masks, at this point, seem rash especially with the lawsuits that are going on, Latham said. He was referring to lawsuits, particularly in Central and South Florida, where people are suing several counties for forcing the public to wear masks -- calling government mandates over what a person wears a violation of privacy.

The merger had been in the works for months, starting when it was approved by the Jacksonville Beach City Council in May, and then the Jacksonville City Council in September. As part of the transfer, a new Advanced Life Support Rescue Unit will be put into service at the South Beach Parkway fire station. That unit will double the number of rescues assigned to Jacksonville Beach. The consolidation was designed to standardize the quality of service, reduce duplication of services and speed up response time.
