Police say an 11-year-old boy retrieved a gun from an unlocked box in his mother’s vehicle and shot two 13-year-olds following an altercation that began during a Pop Warner football practice in central Florida.

Instead of a traditional Super Bowl which includes qualifiers from eight regions across the country, only two regions played this year.

The national championship, typically held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports compound, was canceled due to COVID-19, with only the national cheerleading competition going forward. “To these kids, they are champions regardless of COVID-19 [changing things],” said Shawn Fountain, head coach of the Westside Wildcats.

Events throughout the community will celebrate football from Pop Warner to professional, highlighting Jaguars players past and present and recognizing the next generation of Jaguars fans. The event will feature inflatables, face painting, a zip line, photo opportunities and appearances by Jaguars Legends, Jaxson De Ville and the D-Line. The participating Pop Warner teams were selected by Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. and include the Creeks Outlaws, Sweetwater Cardinals, Westside Wildcats, Arlington Seminoles, Lakeshore Raiders and Henry Brown Panthers.
