FHP: 3 injured in Fleming Island head-on crash

2 pickup trucks collide on US-17 at Town Center Blvd.

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – Three people were seriously injured Wednesday night in a head-on collision in Fleming Island, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers responded just before 9:30 p.m. to the crash involving two pickup trucks on U.S. 17 at Town Center Boulevard in Clay County.

According to the report, a GMC Sierra pickup truck was going northbound on U.S. 17 when the driver, David Pulliam, 49, of Jacksonville, lost control and crossed into the southbound lanes colliding head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

Troopers said the GMC pickup continued to go into the tree line before it stopped. Pulliam was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Chevrolet pickup spun out, stopping just before the tree line. The driver and passenger, Larry Tode, 65, and Connie Tode, 66, both from Green Cove Springs, were taken to Orange Park Medical Center with critical injuries, troopers said.

According to the accident report, Pulliam was not wearing a seat belt. Charges are pending as the Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
