Passenger in JSO cruiser hurt in crash on I-295 at Normandy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two of three northbound lanes of Interstate 295 just south of I-10 were closed for several hours Tuesday morning after a crash involving a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office cruiser.

Rescue units were called just after 9 a.m. and a JSO spokesman said a passenger in the police vehicle was transported as a precaution. A Jacksonville Fire-Rescue spokesman said the injury was not serious.

According to police, the civilian car lost control, possibly because it had just started raining, struck the guardrail and bounced back onto the highway and hit the cruiser.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there were four secondary crashes, including one involving a big rig and a car near Wilson Boulevard that resulted in three injuries. According to the FHP website, all northbound traffic was being diverted off I-295 at 103rd Street.
