What to expect from Sunday’s storms in northeast Florida, southeast Georgia

Rain forecast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Your Sunday weather across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia will include the potential for strong to possibly severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and hail. Mostly staying south of I-10, heavy rains are expected, though accumulation will be low except during heavy downpours. Southeast Georgia will stay mostly cloudy, with less rain expected.

Heating across the region will be the main driver of storm development this afternoon to early evening. Areas with greater warming, mostly in northeast Florida, will see the best chance of strong to severe storm activity, with damaging winds and hail as the primary threats.

High temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 70s to mid-80s, which will help to fuel the afternoon storms.

Evening storms, then a quiet night

As the evening rolls in, the storm threat doesn’t disappear immediately, but it does begin to wind down.

Scattered showers and storms will weaken, shifting their focus south into central Florida. By 11 p.m. to midnight, activity should become more isolated.

Patchy fog is likely to develop overnight. Lows will be mild, settling in around 65 to 70 degrees.
